:: NEWS ::

It's been a great summer... I've been neglecting my blog due to being insanely busy wrapping up the Craigdarroch Castle Oral History Project. I just wrote what amounts to a master's thesis in about a week. Whew! Almost done with the paperwork and then it's on to whatever new adventures await.

Looking forward to heading out to Nashville this weekend for a really busy 10 days.
(Flying out via Seattle for a weekend of foodie heaven :)

My songwriter round in Nashville at Lyrix.
Wednesday, September 20th
94 Peabody, 615-734-6426

I'll be taking the stage at 9:30 with Jim Sales and Julie Durden for a half hour set.
Barbara Cloyd is the host.
Rounds start at 7:00, there's an open mic starting at 10:00.

My main event is NSAI's Song Camp 102, workshopping new stuff, and attending some panel events where there'll be opportunities to pitch songs to publishers.

And it just so happens that the Americana Music Conference is happening that week too. I've got tickets for the awards show at the Ryman with an all-star cast of amazing musicians from Elvis Costello to Delbert McClinton. Then I get to go and see awesome Newgrass band Nickel Creek the next night. Can't wait!

This trip is partially sponsored by FACTOR (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Record).
Check back for a full update, photos and some new songs at the beginning of October.

Some things I enjoyed from the farmers' market this summer:
baby strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, new potatoes, broccoli, corn, tomatoes of all shapes and sizes, zucchini, baby squashes, mixed greens, Gravenstein apples and giant green onions. Right now the neighbour's tree is shedding Packham pear missiles.
I'm awash with antioxidants...

Let me know what you'd pay to download a song. I'm curious.

I'll send monthly alerts when I make updates to the blog, and if I do showcases anywhere, you'll be the first to know.

What I've been reading...

The omnivore's dilemma : a natural history of four meals / Michael Pollan
What to eat / Marion Nestle
I heard an Ember Swift song the other day: "The more I learn about food, the less I want to eat."
Honestly, since when did eating become such a minefield? Endlessly fascinating...
